First, seek the representation of a defense attorney who works with DWIs a lot. As for your license issue, you should have gotten a form, Notice of Suspension/ Temporary Driving Permit (form DIC-25), when they confiscated your license. That serves as a temporary license after confiscation.

That form also tells you that there is an automatic license suspension after 40 days upon refusal to provide a blood/breathe specimen or failure of the blood/breathe test, and also tells you that you are entitled to a hearing on the Administrative License Revocation, but that you must request said hearing within 15 days of the arrest. If you do request a hearing, a lot of DWI defense attorneys include representation at the ALR hearing as part of their overall defense representation.

Should your license end up being administratively suspended, then you will want to look into obtaining an Occupational Drivers License that will allow you to drive to work and to perform necessary household errands. Lots of DWI attorneys also offer assistance in obtaining the ODL as part of their representation on the DWI.

Specific details and actions to be taken differ case by case, and the above is just a basic overview of the license revocation. Because of the long term consequences and substantial financial penalties associated with a DWI, I recommend that you seek competent legal representation through local counsel.
