Hi. I was discharged from my surgeon from an incident at work (worker's comp) Thursday, March 19th. I work for a school and due to the corona-virus, schools have been closed. I asked the worker's comp attorney if I should file for unemployment and he said I should do that. How will this work - going from worker's comp to unemployment? I also have issues with what they used to keep me out of work. The worker's comp lawyer said I needed to speak with a labor and employment attorney. Thank you, Valerie
As Mr. Kirk says, you'll want to stick with your attorney's advice on the workers comp/unemployment issues. But it's not clear what other, separate matter you're referring to that they told you to seek other counsel because they don't handle that kind of issue. As your attorney suggested, you'll need to contact a labor/employment attorney and give them more details- the Find a Lawyer link at the top of the page might be helpful to locate one.
Your chosen attorney is clearly in the best position to advise you of potential rights and remedies.
Child Abuse / Emancipation
A friend asked me to look into this. If a 16-year-old is being beaten by their step-parent, can they file for emancipation?
