sign tickets

Hello I was Ticked without warning by the city of Corona Ca. for putting up 12 buisness signs on various telephone poles. The fine is $960.00 do I have any recourse. The Code enforcment officer said appeals dont work because they have pictures of our signs.

Re: sign tickets

Did the poles belong to you? If so, you have a solid chance to defend yourself. Otherwise, posting business signs on someone else's property without permission is a misdemeanor, and I suppose you might be subject to jail time as well as a fine. The specific provision of law is Penal Code section 556.1, or if public property were involved, section 556.

Section 556.2 creates a minor exception for certain notices and 556.3 declares the posed signs to be a public nuisance.
