Captain's Mast and possible discharges
I have 12 years of Naval service and recently went to Captain's Mast. I was reduced one rank, 1/2 months pay X2 and will be administratively seperated. What kind of discharge can I expect?
Re: Captain's Mast and possible discharges
Since I do not know what you went to mast for, I cannot comment on what the command may try to give you. I assume they will try to give you a bad discharge for misconduct. However, it is not just what they want to give you. You have rights too.
What you can expect depends on how much you fight it. You have a right to demand an administrative discharge board to decide if you should be discharged at all, or what kind of a discharge. You can be represented by a lawyer at this hearing and can call witnesses and present evidence. You should demand this instead of just accepting whatever the command wants to do to you. This is your opportunity to fight it and exercise your rights, either to try to stay in or at least to get a good discharge. This is your right and there is no reason to simply give it up.
I hope this has answered your questions. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.
