Re: work suspension

Suspension is sort of the little brother of termination. I'd think that if you work in an at-will employment situation, where the employer can let you go for a good reason, or for no reason at all, but not for a bad reason (which is common), then the employer can also suspend you without giving a reason.

If, on the other hand, the company has a written or unwritten discipline and dismissal policy, and they aren't following it, you have a legitimate gripe.

Also, the law would recognize a difference between a brief suspension and a long one. Two days isn't much time to investigate a situation and prepare paperwork.

So, I'd say much depends upon established policy where you work, combined with the length of time this goes unexplained to you.

The grounds for a lawsuit against an employer for unlawful suspension are more or less the same as those for an unlawful dismissal.
