I am working for a small marketing/advertising company and gets paid base pay and cash-in sales commission (commission due me when the customer pays the invoice). Because of the coronavirus crisis, our office is going to be closed temporarily. My employer guaranteed my base pay for the next 15 days of office closure but did not say anything about the commission. Does employer have the right to hold off on my commission?
These are crazy times with little to guide an employer or an employee regarding these situations. Generally there is no law that excuses people from their contractual obligations because of this situation so if you are contractually entitled to the commission, i.e. the customer pays, then you should get your money.
Good luck to you.
