Yes you can settle your workers compensation case by what is called a Stipulation, and be entitled to future medical treatment for life.

The difficulty in the current workers compensation system is you have to receive your treatment by a doctor on the Medical Provider Network, and you have to get those treatments approved through what is called Utilization Review, can be a difficult process.

If you do not have an attorney I would recommend you obtain one. It appears you have a serious injury case with extensive medical needs. I would want someone protecting your interests. Good Luck.

As Mr. Borah indicates above, you owe it to yourself to consult with an experienced workers' compensation attorney. If the Qualified Medical Examiner recommends bilateral knee replacement surgeries, you need to select a patient-oriented orthopedist on the employer's Medical Provider Network (MPN) as your treating doctor. An attorney can help select such a physician and also fend off the inevitable attempt by the insurance company to reduce your award, deny treatment denials, and obtain a court Award for medical care.
Given the severity of your condition and the high exposure on future medical care, you will act smartly by obtaining the services of an attorney. Fees are generally limited to 15% of the Award or settlement, subject to approval by a Workers' Compensation Administrative Law Judge.

What you don't want to do is to be talked into a low settlement by the adjuster who is eager to close the claims file.

You're talking about a pretty serious injury. You don't want to screw this up from inexperience. The insurance is going to fight you on this (you may not even know that they're pulling tricks) so I recommend getting a lawyer. Use the "Find a Lawyer" tab at the top of this page to find a top rated WC lawyer in the inland empire. Be sure to ask that lawyer if you qualify for SIBTF and SJDV.
