I was laid off from my company, along with 14 other people, due to COVID-19 related downsizing. The company will be laying off more people as well. Am I allowed to legally ask for a deferral on my rent payment for the upcoming month? Is it possible to ask for a deferral on other payments.
You are still required to pay rent. It is my understanding that certain cities, such as Los Angeles, are implementing a moratorium (temporary prohibition) on evictions due to tenants non-payment of rent caused by the COVID-19. You should check your local courthouse's website and/or local municipality website to see if such a moratorium is in effect where you live.
