For a first offense with blowing double the limit, is that an automatic loss of licence?

It's not automatic unless you plead guilty or found guilty after a trial. If you fight the case and win then you won't lose your license or will lose it for less than the minimum of seven months and you may not have to have the interlock device bc it's mandatory for over .15 reading.

Even if you blew the limit if you are convicted it is an automatic loss of license if you lose your case. In NJ you don't lose your license until and if you are convicted so hire a good lawyer and maybe you can beat the conviction, however with being double over the limit its not just the machine you probably failed but also the physical tests and if you fail either you can be convicted of a DWI. The amount you blew is only important as to how long you will lose your license not if. Again get yourself a good lawyer and hope for some luck that you can beat your case, just realize the vast majority of DWI's in NJ are lost and having a high reading certainly does not help you.
