I went shopping at Wal-Mart last month and purchased a keyboard along with 3 other items. I went thru self checkout and paid for my items. Upon leaving the store an employee said something to me which I couldn't hear since I had headphones in watching a video. I walked to my car and headed home. 2 miles down the road I was pulled over in my wife's car. (She has a record of shoplifting in the past from walmart) I was told that I was reported for shoplifting. In my car there was a walmart bag with three small items I bought and the keyboard (I bought) which slid out of the bag and behind the drivers seat. In the bag was also my receipt which disappeared when the car was impounded.
Is there a way for ME to get it dismissed? I can't afford a lawyer and since it's a class C I'm not required to have one appointed. The admiralty tab is an accident but can't seem to be able to remove it.
This is an unfortunate situation, but these types of misunderstandings do happen. You may want to find out who the person at the register was when you were there. Once you know who it is, you can find out if they remember you going to the register that day. You can also potentially subpoena Wal Mart's sales records or video recordings. Also, if you paid with a credit card, you may be able to use your own banking records.
In addition to Criminal Law, Admiralty/Maritime was included as a category. Unless there was additional information, I didn't see any Admiralty/Maritime issues here. If there were, you could add or repost them.
