I have poer of attorney status for my elderly grandfather. He lived in Indiana and owned a home there. We recently moved him to Minnesota so our family could care for him. He has mild dementia and can not live alone any longer. His neighbors, three couples, have been looking after him while we made arrangements to move him. The problem is that Grandpa's ex-wife, a convicted felon, constantly harasses him and has literally stolen him blind for years. His home in Indiana is for sale and the ex has threatened to burn it down, etc. I spent two entire days at the local courthouse getting protective orders filed to keep her, and her family of ex-cons, away from that house. One of his neighbors has been extremely helpful throughout this ordeal and I want to know if I can give him some sort of document stating that he is our representative in the state of Indiana and that he is allowed complete control of that property until it is sold. He is worried that Law Enforcement will have no way to back him up should the ex-wife try something; and we know she will.
YOu should contact an attorney in Indianapolis who should be able to assist in drafting a document that will work for those purposes. You will need the power signed by your Dad. Mary 633-4002
