I live in Hagerstown, MD. Mom was sent to the facility after a stay in the hospital. We all thought she had a nice size portfolio, but in her diminished mental capacity over the last few years, (she doesn't have Alzheimer's, it's due to old age according to a neurologist) she went through most of it and doesn't remember doing it. None of us looked into her portfolio first - stupid on our part. I filled out her paperwork due to having to have her transferred immediately and I have her POA (or so I thought, turns out it was never signed by 2 witnesses which apparently it has to have - I found this out 2 days ago). She has a lot if medical bills and now owes the facility a hefty sum because she didn't have the funds in her portfolio to pay the rent. I'm in the process of finding a nursing home and getting her on Medicaid to cover her medical expenses. With her limited income (SS check), there is no way she can repay all these bills. She's never filed for bankruptcy before.
If your name is on the contract as a guarantor then you are liable for the obligation.
