A divorce sounds in order. Was this a very brief marriage of under 3 years or what duration, if not. The child is a child born of the marriage, but apparently he is not truly in the child's life so the presumption of joint legal custody is also an issue and determining appropriate visitation- supervised potentially in view of his lack of involvement and the child's age as well as his abusive conduct. Of course child support is an issue . There is also property division and the issue of debt division- whose name the assets or debts are under is not the relevant issue but the purpose of the debt and who benefited from it.

You should contact an attorney to discuss specific details, there is not much here to go on. If you want a divorce you'll need to go through the divorce process of filing in the probate and family court. If you fear for your safety and your child's safety, for any reason, you should consider additionally have restraining orders and making sure temporary orders are put in place regarding custody to protect your child and yourself. If the assistance you were looking for is financial, that can be determined in a temporary order as well.
