The only relevant issue is whether there is a law that allows an employee to cut his work hours in order to attend school and there is nothing the employer can do about it. The answer is the opposite. If your husband was hired for a full time job, he is obligated to work full time. His employer has no obligation to leave work undone or make other employees take up the slack just so your husband has an easier time attending classes.
