I lived in my daughter's house in IL, against my better judgement. Over those years, she abused me emotionally and financially ($70K-$80K). I never took action. I moved to CA 2 yrs ago to get away from her, and learned she's now 2 hours away. Since it happened in IL, do I have any rights in CA regarding restitution? I am in my 70's and have been told it constitutes elder abuse.

My Mom has severe dementia and is now unable to speak anything other than Minion (gibberish). She can walk (unsteadily) but is confused on routine things like getting in a car or how to use her eating utensils. As her conservator I have am now planning on her last days (years) because of this progression. She has 3 signed Advanced Directives over the past 30 years that each say she does not want life saving methods to prolong her life. When the time comes, can the state of California force a PEG (feeding tube) against her wishes? Can a family member force the court to have one inserted despite my Mom's 3 prior Advanced Directives? My sister is in complete denial and thinks my Mom is depressed eventhough 3 specialists all concur Mom is beginning her final stages of this terrible disease. Thank you so much.

My mom is 84 and has alzheimers. She lives with my sister and has for the last 8 months. We recently cashed in moms last C.D to do repairs on her home even though she is no longer able to live there. My question is, can the remaining amount from the cd be given to my sister for caring for her? My sister has'nt taken a dime while caring for her. Also what can we do with a small life insurance policy worth 17,000 before we move her to a nursing home, which has become urgent?

Cook County Guardian has plenary guardianship of my mother after my brother and I resigned as POA. However, my mother's home is protected under the trust, and my brother and I are co-trustees. My mother is currently in a nursing home and the house is unoccupied. CCG was advised of the trust but it was never mentioned in court prior to the my resignation. The CCG is now bothering me regarding the sale of the house. I feel they messed up during the court proceeding, and now they expect me to the free leg work of selling the house. Did CCG and the GAL drop the ball regarding the trust, and do I have a fiduciary responsibility to sell the house?

is a DPA and Medical Power of attorney signed in California valid in Mexico? My mother is 91 and has come up with every excuse to not sign them. Her latest excuse is her concern that she they will not be valid if she goes to Mexico. She is in poor health and we need her to sign them now. She has nothing in place in the event she becomes incapacitated. She is mentally fine and we understand this is her decision.

Hi, I'm wondering if I could be liable for my mothers nursing home care. She was involuntarily admitted to a Massachusettes home even though she was a lifelong NYS resident as we are as well. No family members were involved or signed any documents. My sister and I have been out of my mothers care at ages 15 & 16. I had legal/physical custody of my sister when she was 15 & myself 18. I am receiving bills via certified mail from the home and unsure how to handle this. The bills are addressed to my mom but in care of myself. I am unwilling to pay this expense & am currently a stay at home mom. We are 32 & 35 now and raising our young families. Our dad is deceased and Mom has $1k in cash assets and a $10k life policy. That is it. I know there are filial laws in Mass but not NYS. I appreciate the help :)
