elderly parent w/ alzheimers
My mother has advanced alzheimers
and can no longer live alone.
Unfortunately, she would not give
my brother or I POA while she was in
her right mind. Our names are as
beneficiaries on all of her money, but
our names are not on the deed to
the house (which is paid for). I am
afraid that my brother has already
contacted a lawyer and possibly has
obtained a POA without revealing the
fact that her Alzheimers is advanced.
What I need to know is if he has
obtained the POA is it legal and if he
hasn't yet, what do I need to do.
Should I check into her bank having
conservatorship or can my brother
and I have joint guardianship.
Re: elderly parent w/ alzheimers
You should hire an attorney and talk to him about guardianship. It will be expensive since doctors and courts are involved, but the cost of not doing it will be much greater.
