FMLA for teachers in the state of VA

I am requesting FMLA to care for my daughter during a serious illness during her pregnancy. I was told 1st that I don't qualify because she does not live at home, second her condition was not serious enough(complications due to hight blood pressure, confined to bedrest. I was told teachers were different in the state of VA and if I left that they may ask me to stay off the rest of the semester till Jan 2009. I was asking to leave 10/24/08 and return in six weeks around 12-08-08. Could you tell me if Va law FMLA differs for teachers than other employees. I work in Franklin County VA. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks DO

Re: FMLA for teachers in the state of VA

Section 108 of the FMLA spells out the rights of employees of "Local Educational Agencies" which appear to be essentially the same as any other employee in any other field of endeavor who is eligible for leave under the Act.
