Medicaid

My 88 year old great aunt applied for Medicaid 4 weeks ago -- all the paperwork complete and assets below $2,000. She is currently in a skilled-nursing facility, hoping to return home in a couple of weeks. Last week she learned she was named in a cousin's will and is to receive approximately $10,000. She wants to know if this will affect her Medicaid? Her only income is SS.

Re: Medicaid

It is certainly possible that this potential bequest could affect your great aunt's eligibility.

There are a number of other options your cousin may want to consider. You should speak with an estate planning attorney and raise your concerns with the cousin.
