Re: state repayment for eldercare services

You really should consult with an elder law attorney.

Generally speaking, the state of CT can lien assets of individuals who benefit from services such as state assistance of various kinds. I am really not sure if services from the agency on aging is one of them. You might want to visit their website to see if there is more information.

Many times, the payback amount can be negotiated as a percentage on the dollar. However, this is not guaranteed and I really don't know what the state is doing now with this financial crisis we are under.

If your grandmother is competent, you should have a consultation with an estate planning attorney as well.
