Hi I’m in New Jersey and have a court date late next week for a FRO hearing.
But I have been hearing courts have shut down due to coronavirus. How can I confirm whether my court date is still on or is delayed now? Is there a way to check online? I have my docket number.
Thank you for your question. While the courts are now closed to the public, many judges are conducting hearings telephonically. In order to determine the status of your case we suggest contacting the county courthouse where your hearing is scheduled to take place. You can ask for the family division, explain that you are looking for the status of your case and provide them with your docket number. A court assistant should be able to assist you.
You should hire an experienced family law attorney to represent you. Either you or your attorney should call the Court House to find out how they are handling their cases.
The above answers aare correct. Trials and Court Appearances are affected by the Corona virus. Nevertheless, life moves forward. You should retain a quality Domestic Violence attorney who can guide you through tehse perilous times.
Each Court is operating on their own schedule. I strongly advise you to retain counsel to represent you. Many courts are operating by phone or other means of technology. Do not let this slip between the cracks, hire counsel.
You can call chambers. Hiring a defense attorney would also be recommended.
We are getting new information on a daily basis, but, from what I understand, all final hearings are being delayed until at least April. There is currently nothing happen in the courthouses in person with very limited exceptions. You should call the county courthouse and you will be able to confirm no appearance and a new date.
Domestic violence case status cannot be checked out online. If you have not already done so, you really need to retain an experienced matrimonial attorney, with extensive domestic violence trial experience.
