Hey
So, I have been in the US for over 3 yrs as an F1 student. However, I transferred over to different school last semester January 2020. Now, my sponsor just got laid off amid COVID-19. So, I asked my International Coordinator to provide new I-20 based on severe economic hardship and she said I am supposed to be enrolled one full academic year in order to be eligible for severe economic hardship I-20.
So, my question is do I have to be enrolled for one full year in same university to get hardship I-20 or one full year of F1 status overall?
I am just confused as SEVP says you must be
"""U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will authorize off-campus employment only in cases of severe economic hardship occurring after a student's enrollment in an academic program and after the student has been in F-1 status for at least one full academic year, or in emergent circumstances as defined by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)."""
As I have had F1 status for over 3 yrs. And latest I-20 issued by a school I have been to is Last semester January 2020.
Thank you
You don’t need to be enrolled at that particular school for one year but you have to be in the USA as a full time student for one year. So you meet that requirement and should be able to apply for EAD through economic hardship.
You do seem to meet the one year requirement.
You look like you meet the one-year requirement.
It looks like you meet the one year requirement if you have been enrolled as a full time student for the last three years.
