I was not fortunate enough to be born in the U.S.A , but grew up in the U.S.A. Graduated here, have bank accounts here and everything you could imagine a normal working resident would have. At the age of 21, I tried to renew my DL, but I was told I was not able to do so unless I showed them my passport. I went to get my passport at my country;s corresponding office. Once there, o was told that my last name would differ from all my other legal documents. According to my Birth Certificate I should have not carried on the last name that I legally carry on because it is my fathers SECOND last name rather than his first, which had gone unnoticed until that day. However, my father does not even use that last name so i don't know how or what went wrong.I now need to renew my DL but have NO clue what to do. PLEASE help, I really need to get my DL to continue to go to college, to get to work, and to commute my 2yr old. Thank You so much for your help!!!!!!!!!

File for what's called "A Name Change For an Adult" in your

local circuit court so that your name listed with Vital Records

in Richmond conforms with the name you've been using.

You do not need an attorney to do this name change and may

be able to pick up a packet of forms with instructions from the clerk's

office of your local circuit court which explains what you need to do or

possibly download it from the court's Web site.
