My parents got a order of protection on my behalf against my boyfriend who is 18. I am 16. My boyfriend has never harassed or abused me ever and my parents have never met him. We have also never have had any sexual relationship with each other. I would like to know which order of protection could have possibly been placed against him and how long it will last. Again he has not done anything to harm me or my family in any way possible.
One of three types: Emergency, Interim, or Plenary Order of Protection. For you to solidify your answer:
1. Illinois laws are organized as Illinois Compiled Statutes. The Illinois Domestic violence Act starts at 750 ILCS 60/101. Review the whole act. An important part is the definitions section, 750 ILCS 60/103. All this can be found at http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs5.asp?ActID=2100
2. Domestic violence cases are public record. The Cook County Circuit Clerk's website for case search is http://www.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/CourtCaseSearch/. From that you can get court dates and event summaries. If not in Cook County, Google for that county's site. Note that updating may be problematic because of the significant coronavirus disruption.
3. Info with links for this and other legal issues can be found at www.illinoislegalaid.org.
4. You are a minor, and so your parents are empowered to make decisions for you.
