Hi,
I am Indian citizen and the 6 years time period for my H1b is getting expired in 1st week of April 2020. I did plan to leave the country on the 3rd week of the March 2020 but all flights got cancelled due to the Coronavirus(COVID-19) situation. My employer has already applied for my PERM and has asked me to stop working in USA starting the 4th week of March 2020. What can I do to avoid any future complications during the I140 approvals. I had no intention to overstay but looks like I have to cause of COVID-19 as all borders are now closed.
Thanks
You will have to file Form I-539 to change your status to B1/B2 for visitor purposes.
You should file for a change of status to B1/B2 prior to your current status expiring. This will allow you to remain in the U.S. for up to six additional months.
File for a change of status to B1/B2 due to the circumstances.
