I was charged with assault in 2018 i missed the court dates because i was scared it was my first criminal offence. The assault wasn't true i didn't do anything wrong. Now i have warrants. I want to turn my self in and get my name cleared.
I agree that your best bet is to contact an attorney who can get the case in front of the prosecutor and judge and possibly keep you out of jail.
You have several options here. One, you just bite the bullet, turn yourself in, and wait to get arraigned. That means you get processed at jail and get arraigned by video, and bond set. However, the most prudent decision is to hire an attorney, and have the attorney contact the prosecutor and court, and get the warrant quashed in exchange for turning yourself in after the COVID-19 emergency has passed. Courts do not want people coming into court right now, if it is not necessary, and jails want people to stay out if able. So there is a shot at keeping you out of jail, and getting this handled later. BUT, you need to get on this now, and hire an attorney. Don't know what county your charge is in, but best bet is to find an attorney in the county where you are charged. Local attorneys have good relationships (if they are good attorneys) with the local prosecutors. So get on it. Start calling attorneys.
Agree. Hire an attorney immediately and that attorney can review your case status, assist with getting the warrant served, review case for evidence, discuss with prosecutors, etc. Not going to be good for you being a fugitive for the rest of your life.
You have likely now been charged with failure to appear and may remain in jail without a bond until a court date. You should consult with a criminal defense attorney before turning yourself in. Perhaps he or she can negotiate a plea agreement as to the failure to appear and see if the assault can be dismissed prior to turning yourself in. In any case, please hire a local defense attorney to help you.
Artistic Rights
Hi, I sang at a wedding free of charge with an oral contract prior to the event that I would be entitled to a copy of the DVD of my singing, since which time the bride/groom and videographer refse to comply and allow me to either copy or have them copy for me my singing portions of their wedding video-- Do I have any legal recourse -- this is New York State -- USA
Child Visitation
My daughter is going to turn 13 in July, as of now she is having a problem with going to Indiana to spend time with her father. I don't know what to tell her anymore because she is insisting on not wanting to go visit him anymore. Is she obligated to do so until 18 or can she petition to chose at an earlier age. She feels that it's not fair that her other 2 sisters don't have to visit when she does have to. Please advise.
