While my friend has a co-worker who sits behind her. This person had just gotten back from the Philippines. Unknown to her, he brought back tuberculosis (TB). She then went on vacation. While she was out, the company discovered that the co-worker had TB. The Department of Health quarantines the whole place and has everyone tested. Unfortunately, no one calls my friend to tell her. In fact, when she came back, no one still told her. Later, my friend discovers what had happened. Now she is very sick with breathing problems. She takes over 10 meds a day, 3 inhalers. She can have breathing problems at any time. Does she have a case against her employer and the Health Dept? She is afraid to sue because she doesn't want to lose her health insurance. Is that a valid fear? Thanks.

Your friend should immediately consult with a workers compensation attorney. She may have claims within the workers comp system as well as outside, She should check with the local Bar Association's legal referral service or the California State Bar's website for names of workers comp specialists.
