CPA made error in my 2006

I sent my 2007 taxes to the CPA that we have used for 10 years. He called and said he had found a mistake in the taxes he prepared for us in 2006. He forgot to add 54,000 income and now we owe 28.000 taxes plus interest and penalty. Is he legally responsibile for interest and penaty?

First, the taxpayer is always responsible for paying penalties and interest.

Second, you may have a cause of action against the accountant to recoup that money from him, if your contract with him included a guarantee against the imposition of penalties and/or interest.
