I am a teacher and I changed districts with little notice. The school hired a replacement.

Can my previous district hold my certification because I did not give enough notice, even though they hired a replacement immediately.

I think you need to talk to the Illinois Board of Education or the County Superintendent and try to get a duplicate copy. The actual piece of paper is not the certificate. The actual certificate is 'on file' with the state. If you "changed districts" your current employer must be satisfied with your credentials and that is all that matters.

Downstate, they just keep a xerox copy and you keep the certificate. My wife (and I) taught is suburbia and they frequently threatened to keep the certificate for the life of your current teaching contract (ends June 30, 2013).
