I live in San Francisco, California.
A week ago I received a collection notice from NCO Financial Systems Inc. for $1,168.00
On the notice it says CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO
The date of service is 6/19/2009. Nearly 2 years ago!
I couldn't recall what the service was and I never received any bill or notice from The City & County of SF.
The collection notice said I can go to the website www.ncofinancial.com and enter the registration code for detailed information.
I went to the website but the code did not work. I just received the following message: We can no longer service you through this web site. Please call 1-888-853-6950 for further assistance.
I then called the number above and spoke to a representative,
The rep said the balance was from the SF Fire Department and then proceeded to ask several personal questions but I politely said that I would look into matter and call back.
The next day I got a copy of credit report from all 3 agencies.
I didn't find any reported balance due or charge off for City & County SF or SFFD.
I'm guessing this is some ambulance bill.
Is there a statute of limitation for collection of a debt nearly 2 years old?
You don't remember if you were in an ambulance? If it is a valid bill they could sue to collect it for up to 4 years. But all you received was a collection notice. Send them a debt validation letter. Search for [debt validation letter].
