Responsiblilty of homeowner to report problem in a timely manner
If there is water damage in your home due to pipe breaking, the water company comes to turn off your water(homeowner is out of town). A month later their water still isn't on, no workers fix the problem, and their cars and others have been going in and out of the house for weeks. Could the insurance company deny payment for a mold claim if it hasn't been addressed and reported in a timely manner?
Re: Responsiblilty of homeowner to report problem in a timely manner
Notice must be reasonable under the circumstances. What the insurer will do is uncertain, but you should notify it asap. Many policies try to exclude mold damages and this will be an obstacle to overcome. Consider contacting a lawyer who will also make a claim against the water company, as well as investigating the cause of the pipe breakage.
