You and the plaintiff's attorney can sign a stipulation to give to the court to set aside the default taken against you. That would put the lawsuit back on the court calendar and you'd be able to defend yourself, hire a lawyer, etc. It's better than having a judgment against you. Then you'd be in a position to negotiate, if you owe the creditor some money.
