We are three Norwegian citizens (two parents and one child) currently in the United States. Our ESTA expires on April 10.
With the situation being so unclear, we want to limit travel to the extent possible.
EU is considering extending tourist visas to foreigners thats in Europe at the moment, and have difficulties to leave on time due to Convid19 travel restrictions.
Is the US considering to do the same?
CBP can only grant you "satisfactory departure" for up to 30 days from date of expiration. That's how current law stands. The government could announce something different anytime, depending on how the pandemic situation evolves. Stay tuned.
First of all, ESTA is a permit, NOT A VISA.
Second, the most you can get is 30 extra days under a 'satisfactory departure rule.
Contact the CBP office at the airport at which you entered the US. Make sure you have tickets to leave the US within that additional (maximum) 30 days.
Extension may be an option. You should consult with an attorney to analyze the most updated information as it applies to your specific situation and the correct way to obtain the extensions.
