I submitted my asylem case in Ohio , done with interview , moved to Texas , I received a letter from USCIS of my asylm rejection and send my case to immigration court , mentioning to appear on 8th April in Houston immigration court , as bcs of COVID-19 issue .
As said above, all non-detained hearings through April 10 are postponed, but most courts are still accepting filings. Be sure to update your address with the court (they should have sent a pre-addressed Form EOIR-33/IC with your hearing notice) if you move before it is rescheduled, and check 1-800-898-7180 once in a while to make sure you didn't miss a re-scheduling notice. Finally, keep in mind that if you move to another state you will still have to appear in Houston until a "change of venue" is granted. This is different from just changing your address with the court. Good luck!
You need to consult with a Board Certified immigration attorney quickly so you can devise a removal hearing strategy now while the courts are closed.
Here's the immigration courts hotline number: 1-800-898-7180, it's automated system where you can check the date of your hearings and the status of your case before the immigration court.
Non-detained master calendar hearings were postponed due to coronavirus, you can check the latest updates on EOIR's website here: https://www.justice.gov/eoir/eoir-operational-status-during-coronavirus-pandemic
Regarding your master calendar hearing: you need to appear in person on that day. If you will not appear in person at your hearing, judge will remove you in absentia (means you will be deported automatically).
You need to hire an immigration attorney to represent you in removal proceedings. Your attorney will answer judge's questions (pleadings, asylum application, date of individual hearing).
Even if you will not be able to find an attorney before your hearing, you should appear in person on the hearing date.
You MUST inform the immigration court about the change of your address (blue form).
Asylum office should have sent the copy of your asylum application to the immigration court.
Immigration Courts are closed for non-detained hearings from today to April 10. You will receive a new (rescheduled) hearing notice in the mail. See: https://www.justice.gov/eoir/eoir-operational-status-during-coronavirus-pandemic.
Please retain a lawyer ASAP. Do not delay anymore.
Your obligation is to show up in Immigration Court on the appointed date. Call this number and ask to speak to a court clerk who can confirm your court appointment date. If it has been deferred because of the coronavirus issue, they will tell you. In the meantime, you should do your best to retain a lawyer to help you. To find a lawyer, select the “Find a lawyer” link at the top of this page. If the cost of the consultation is a concern, you can filter the search results by selecting “Free consultation” on the left side of the screen.
