My temp tag is expiring soon and I don’t yet have a tag or title. The dealer is saying they need more time to get the title. What should I do next?
I assume the bike has an NC title. If it has been more than 60 days since you purchased the vehicle, they have not delivered the title on time. They were required to disclose to you in writing they did not have the title in their possession when you bought it. If they don't give it to you within 60 days, you can collect damages from them in the amount of five percent (5%) of the vehicle purchase price, not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000). You have to deliver them a written demand for the this within 10 days after the expiration of the 60-day period. They have to pay that amount to you within 30 days after the receipt of your written demand. If you missed these deadlines you can still sue them, and I recommend you contact a local attorney for specific advice.
