If you are out on bail and then get arrested what happens to the bail that was originally posted?

Any time a condition of bail is violated, a new charge of bail jumping can be issued by the prosecutor. Being arrested for a new crime would normally fall into this category. Each new bail jumping charge more or less doubles the penalties to which you are exposed. Any old bail on deposit is normally forfeited to the government in addition to these new charges. Even worse, once you have a proven history of violating bail, it is more likely that you will be denied bail altogether in the future, or that a very high bail will be set.
