My son, who is about to graduate, is 19 yrs. old. His mother and I have been divorced for many yrs. She has had custody of him. I have paid support faithfully, and much more for him all these yrs. He left home at age 18 and does not live with either of us. My question is; if I emancipate him, who is legally liable to pay for him to go to college?

If he is still dependent on either of you, you will not be able to obtain an emancipation. If he should petition the court before reaching age 21, he will be entitled to college expense contributions from both parents.
