My wife left me for another man in September. I filed for legal separation in October, so that I could file joint taxes with her and at least get a good return. She would not agree to file married jointly, so I did it using her SSN and esignature before she could file. I didn't claim her income, so she has to file jointly with me to file her taxes. She didn't want the half of the tax return I offered her, because she said I committed tax fraud and she didn't want any part of it. Did I commit fraud or just outwit her on the tax return?

Hoo boy. Yes, forging her signature on a tax return was a crime and a manifestation of poor judgment on your part. If you hear from IRS -- especially if you see a badge -- say nothing at all and contact a lawyer.
