Our wedding was canceled. The venue could no longer hold the event due to a state mandate (coronavirus). We had already paid our florist in full.
They said they will not refund us because we signed a contract saying all money put towards the event was nonrefundable. We do not want the deposit back just the additional paid. They had not ordered the flowers yet so there was no expense on their end. Does the contract hold if no services were rendered?
You should have an attorney review the contract so they could advise you as to your rights. Without seeing the contract, it is impossible to properly answer this question.
Please have an attorney review your contract. Without that it is impossible to fully define what rights you may have. This situation is happening frequently right now and the contract may give you more leverage than you (or the venue) realize.
