I attended The Salter School in Fall River, MA. I am ''Health Claims Specialist'' with a 3.7 GPA. Yet, I do not know Excel. I took a class called Excel. I got an A in ''Excel''

Most of the class did. The Entire class complained, in writing, to the school, Stating that.. We were not taught this very essential skill, The Instructor was a joke, He was thrown into a class that He was unprepared to teach, and that WE, as a group, had learned nothing from the class. 13 people complained...nothing was done. We were not re-offered the class as most of us had demanded. The instructor was not replaced.

Fast forward a month later, I get a job at CVS Corporate. Mostly because of previous billing knowledge. I am ''let go'' a week later because of my lack of Excel knowledge. The same Excel course that I somehow have an ''A'' in. The same course that my entire class complained about. I am now unemployed because I did not know Excel. I will shortly be receiving a $12,000 bill from The Salter School. I will concurrently be seeking, and paying for, further education to learn this computer program which is absolutely essential to any person involved in

even basic billing practices, Medical Billing is famously complicated. Do I have a case?

Jr High cap and gown

My child's Jr. High is requiring a cap and gown for their promotion to High School. If my child does not wear a cap and gown they will not allow my child to participate in the promotion ceremony. I think the cap and gown are not appropriate for this event since my child still has 4 years of school left. Is there any thing I can do?

retaining tuition for medically-excused absences

I am a 28 year old, single mom and am a survivor of colon cancer treated with surgery, chemo and radiation less than 5 years ago. I enrolled in a Cosmetology program in 4/08 and was granted Federal Pell grants and Stafford Loans payable to my program. During the past year I have had LEGITIMATE, medically-excused absences from my training. My legal question for you involves the director/owner of the program who is withholding my essentially unused tuition monies in order to offset the ''charges'' for my absences. In addition, she will not release my transcript for future education as I still ''owe'' her (beyond what my federal aid) for my (excused) absences. Is this legal? Any advice?

I have been in education for 40 yrs. with an outstanding record of achievement. Presently, I am assist vp at a school in florida. I was the last person hired in administration in our county. My most recent job evaluation was a 10/10. I have been in this position for 3 years with a year to year contract. I have been told by our superintendent that my contract would not be renewed as of this June. However, I understand the position will be replaced with a person of the superintndent's choosing. Is this legal? I am 61 yrs old and plan to work until I am 70. I feel, since I am highly compensated due to my years, that this is age discrimination at the very least. I appreciate your opinions.

Teacher Bully

My son has been harassed all year by his 6th grade teacher. He is very sensitive and she has taken advantage of this characteristic. She yells at him, humiliates him almost daily in front of the class, talks about his race in a negative way (he's white, she's Hispanic), and tells the children sexual stories, just to name a few things. I have talked with the principal several times, to no avail. In fact, everytime I do, my son has to live the wrath of retaliation for the weeks following. Just this week she told the class that he ''lied'' to the principal about her and that his parents are always complaining to the principal. I feel helpless while my son is berated and depressed. He comes home crying frequently. In the Hispanic community (it is a Spanish Immersion school), the teacher can do most anything and get away with it. I am tired of her getting away with the constant harassment and abuse of children--not just my son. What do I do? I have been searching through ed code and other things on the internet trying to find help. I am a teacher myself and know that the things she has done all year are absolutely appalling and are against everything we were taught in teacher training. I need help!

Teacher Punishing with Grade

My son told me that a teacher that he knows has been dealing with misbehaving students by docking points off of their grade. The school district does not have a universal grading policy, but it does have a Student Conduct policy that says what punishments may be give out for misbehaving. In the Student Conduct policy there is not a punishment that would involve damaging the students grade.

He says that the teacher says that the behavior system is used for participation, but some people in the class have been docked for talking to friends at the wrong time.

I know this may be a feeble argument, but it seems biased in my eyes that the students are being graded on more than just the curriculum.

I know that it is legal for teachers to grade based on participation, but it seems bias when a teacher uses it to punish misbehaving.

As feeble as my point may be, I think it should be changed, although I do not know how to go about it.

How would you suggest getting this changed?

19 year old autistic son and damage done at school

My son was with an aide at his school when he started looking at his reflection in a car window, why he was in the parking lot I don't know, as I hear it, he got mad and kicked the car and it was scratched. He is 19. Is the school liable at all, or just me?

is there a minimum age restriction for a college or k12 student to do part time research with a proffesor paid or not or be teaching assistant

Financial aid mess! So humuliating

I filed for the fin. aid which covered Oct. 2007- Dec 2008. In Oct. '08 i postponed the last class first to Dec '08 then to Mar '09. I filed for the Loan Plus in Feb 2009. I was approved by the lender.

The school certified the Loan to cover the period Sep 2008 - 13th March 2009. The loan was linked to the FAFSA 2007-08.

In February '09 i sent am email asking to release the hold from the Loan Plus so the lender could disburse the money, but they replied with an email saying I had to post to the last class left uncompleted. I registered and completed the class. I call the Fin Aid office but i get no answers. I call the lender and they tell me the school changed the date of disbursement exactly the day after i completed the class.

I call the Fin Aid office and they tell me that i have to take another class, pay for it an then they will release the money.

They did not release the hold and i had to leave the school to pay for my bills looking for a second job.

There is alot of explain here but basically this school states on their website �faculty have industry experience at companies like Sega which they incorporate into instruction and guidance in their classes, and the highest academic credentials (terminal degrees) which means that experts are delivering their knowledge directly to you�. I am at the end of my degree i have 2 classes to take, the president resigned and the financial backer for the school left .(even though were accredited). the faculty changes every semester and they hire 80% kids out of their own programs. Ive spent $109,000 in loans on this ''education'' being ''taught'' by my former classmates. Ive taught myself everything. They havent even updated their student galley in 3 years. ITs all teachers work now They will not let me speak to the new president , no one returns my emails or phone calls. weeks go by and then they tell me i failed. I have 2 classes left to graduate and it seems that they have withdrawn me from the school without any notice. I have written proof of all of this (emails,web sites) i just want my money back .. I dont even know where to start. please help me

school board issues

The school contacted me saying they thought my child had a learning problem and was not up to grade level. 6 months later, nothing has been done and now they are telling me she'll have to repeat the grade. Anything I can do?

default on loan

I defaulted on my grad loans and the co contacted my employer without my permisson and told them they must deduct 15% of each pay check until it is paid in entirety. My manager told me she had to legally. I was out of work on medical leave recently and was not paid and am struggling to make ends meet with my entire check and afraid what will happen with 15% deducted each pay period. I have tried to contact the loan co and they havve not returned my calls.

I am not sure what to do and if this is legal for them to do and for my employer to do?

Church suing for school's tuition given for free

A friend has been served papers to pay school tuition from a Catholic Church that offered to the mother of a child, free tuition based on her being a single parent with little income. There was no written contract stating free tuition, only a verbal statement - ''Don't worry about.'' Does the Church have a case against the mother. Any precedence? Should she opt for an attorney?

Unathorized possession and duplication of school property

We were copying past test questionnaires given by our college to use as reviewer for our forthcoming test. These test questions are from as far back as 2002, nothing recent. The owner said that we are guilty of cheating, plagiarism, dishonesty, including computer crime. He has expelled us from our school. Did we commit any wrong-doing? Please advise. False Statements to School by Ex

I am the primary custodial parent of a 13 yr. old with multiple medical and psychological issues, including Autism. Since our divorce, my Ex and his new spouse have made numerous extremely derogatory statements about me to school personnel. They also advised the school to disregard the medical documentation regarding our child�s disabilities, because they were �based on claims� made by me. I also discovered similarly horrendous statements, hand-written by my Ex, in our child�s DISTRICT files.

Due to the extreme nature of the statements, I have almost no relationship with the school. They are polite, but condescending, unless I attempt to assert myself, which causes them to become hostile and dismissive. They refuse to conduct a new IEP, and instead suggest that I read some �parenting� books so I can learn about teenagers who manipulate their parents. Is there anything I can do to get the school to look at the FACTS about my child, instead of listening to vindictive propaganda? At 13, my child cannot afford to have his educational needs dismissed by the very people who are responsible for his education.

Possible Discrimination lawsuit

I have been an ASU student for quite some time. I am currently about 15 credits away from completing my degree. I have been suspended for over a year, quite unjustly, for harassment, primarily, and two other minor allegations of disrupting and failure to comply, which are simply not true. I want to know if I would be able to sue and obtain a monetary settlement.

Hello, I am a college student wondering if there is anyone that can assist me? I am a student at Baker College online and my problem is simple. I receive federal financial aid from the government and this aid was mistakenly removed by my academic adviser. The reason it was removed is because she changed my major to a non-degree major which is not eligible for aid. My major was suppose to be general studies and had I been informed that her changing my major would take away my aid I would not have allowed her to do it. Now the financial aid office at Baker College is totally ignoring my calls and email questions. I requested the aid because I needed it currently I am behind on rent because I was expecting a college refund check of 2,000 dollars that just got canceled by mistake but yet no one wants to restore it. I have enough work to do in my classes and now I am being stressed out by a financial aid office that is completely ignoring me. It's been 3 weeks now I just need help!
