my girlfreinds mom is threatining to take us to court for grandparents rights because we dont let her see our daughter because she phisically and verbally abused my girlfreind when she was little and she still does.we dont want it to happen to our daughter too.my girlfreind was in foster care for 2 years over it then she turned 18.i just want to know if there is any way she could actually win if she does take us to court over it?i dont know what kind of law it is so i just clicked one sorry about that.

This is domestic relations law.

There is a statute that can provide grandparents rights. However, if your girlfriend can substantiate a claim of abuse, then the court may permit only supervised contact by the grandparents.

Grandparents, for what it's worth, are rarely active child abusers. It does happen, but with a grandchild they have the chance to undo some of their bad parenting.

If you are really worried about it, then see an attorney locally for information. Get someone who does divorce and child custody work, and they can give you an opinion based on the facts of your case.
