Can someone please help me with a simple question regarding expungement?

This is what I submitted for my expungement in (Cook County) Illinois.

a. the States Attorney of the county you are filing in;

b. the Illinois State Police, Bureau of Identification

c. the Arresting Authority; and

d. the Chief Legal Officer of the unit of local government affecting the arrest.

I can't remember if I properly submitted to (d) the Chief Legal Officer of the unit of local government affecting the arrest. What happens if the Chief Legal office didn't get the petition?

However, I did receive a letter from the Illinois state police notifying me that the record had been cleared and also from the arresting authority.

Does this mean my expungement went through?

Thanks so much!!

If your expungement petition is defective, your petition can be dismissed and you will have to start over again. Receiving the letter you did from Illinois State Police verifies that ISP received your petition for expungement and they are not objecting to your petition, however, if the state's attorney sees that the Chief Legal Officer didn't get the petition and raises that issue at your hearing, your petition will be dismissed.

good luck,

Purav
