Commercial Construction near residential Property
Area: Old bridge, NJ
Problem: there is a commercial construction being planned within 200 feet from my residence.
Question: What can I do or what rights do I have to stop the construction from happening.

First, development can be good, so evaluate what is proposed, don't oppose all development. Second, go to the township before the planning board meeting to check out the application. Find out if the development requires any variances, and what kind of variance. NJ makes development VERY difficult. If no variance is needed, or they are minor variances, you may not be able to oppose it, but if you find the development offensive in some way, perhaps your best bet is to think about what changes would make the development acceptable, like a solid fence around the development. If your request is reasonable, the board may consider it., and may ask for it, even if they can not compel the request. I do a lot of construction work. The best thing to do is do your homework, be reasonable (no one wants to listen to someone they think is a nut!), and to go to the planning board meetings.
