Neighbor's tree may fall on my house

My neighbor's property slopes down

steeply into my tiny backyard. There

are three huge maple trees growing

out of one base, midway up the

slope, and the roots are exposed on

my side of the trees. Rain causes

soil to wash away from the roots and

onto my property. I've had

landscapers refuse to build a

retaining wall for me because of the

risk of the roots being disturbed, and

they say the tree's condition is

dangerous. If they fall, they can only

fall in one direction: on my house.

The owner will not cut down the

trees, and says they're fine.
