With my company for ~5 years with little performance issues. Last summer my dept took on a project where 4 members of my team were to complete a new assignment every 10 days and notes on the assignments were split between 2 interns. I was performing well during this time. After their summer internship was over the notes were then assigned back over my team so instead of having 10 days to do each project now we have around 8 days. 8 for the current project, and ~ 2 for notes for the previous one. This increase in workload was very hard on me and I had trouble finishing the new project and notes from the previous project at the same time in 10 days.
Management told me due to missed deadlines my job was at risk and that I would be let go without improvement. My psychiatrist suggest I tell them I have ADHD and request ADA accommodations and I would like to ask if my notes could be divided between my immediate team if available or others in the dept who also do notes at times too.
I don't think this would be an undue hardship to the company but is the request too much of a removal of an essential function therefore the employer has the right to deny it to me?
Requests for accommodations are very fact specific and require more information. You should consult with a local employment attorney to discuss in more detail.
More information is needed to assess your potential claim. You should contact a lawyer - many offer free consultations.
