Suing for Slande and Libel

A member of a school board has been vocal in a local paper. He is constantly saying lies in the media about student-athletes and coaches. His lastest quote has come back to me very negatively.

''Let's raise the standards,'' he said. ''It seems like the coaches are more interested in winning a championship, than in the kids winning a scholarship.''

Can this be considered libel? Can I sue him?

Re: Suing for Slande and Libel

Ask yourself these questions:

Are you a public figure?

Are you in the public eye?

Have you been harmed by the comments?

Can you establish damages?

Are the comments true? If they are true your quest ends here.

Are they one person opinion? Still no position to sue.

In general how you described the situation, it appears that people are dissatisfied, and this doesn't give you the ability to sue if your feelings are hurt.
