Every apartment has mold. There is ok mold, and not ok mold. Your building department may be able to inspect. If you live in Illinois there are basic rights you have to make the landlord repair things, or if it is serious enough move out (or the city could make you move if things are bad enough). You should seek an attorney's help figure out how to force your landlord to do the right thing or to move out because if you don't do it correctly you could wind up being sued for eviction or rent and lose the case.
