Cases of this type (there isn't much in the way of details in your description, and that's just as well, as this is probably something you'd want to discuss with an attorney in confidence and not on a public forum) are sometimes handled on an hourly fee basis, which is something you might not want to pursue, given the uncertainty of some legal actions.
