I have lived with my grandmother for the past five years and taken care of her through her battle with cancer. She had an agreement with the person that owned the lot that her house is on that if she passes away then as long as I pay the lot rent and bills then I can live there until I decide to move. After her passing, now her children are wanting to sell the place and pretty much just throw me on the street. I have paid the bills up for three months already. Do I have a right to stay here until I decide to move, which will probably be in about a year anyway?

If there ever was such an agreement(apparently oral) between your grandmother

and the land owner, it would never have been enforceable since it would

have been in violation of the Virginia Statute of Frauds codified in Title 11 of the

Va. Code.

Therefore, if the above is correct, you would have no right whatsoever to remain on this property.
