Employment Law

I was hired by a consulting firm to work on a part-time basis conducting executive assessments and was told I would work between 25 - 30 hours per week for $400 per day. If I work 4 hours a day then my assumption was that I would be paid $200...not $400. Similarly, I assumed that if I worked 12 hours on a particular day I would be paid $600. If I spend 6 hours on a Saturday doing work (that is required in order to meet client deadlines) then I would be paid $600. I do not receive any benefits, paid vacation, paid sick days, etc., and have been working between 30 - 45 hours per week, which is okay....I am paid by the company directly (meaning I do not 'bill' them) but my question is this: when they say that the pay is $400 per day, are they legally required to pay me per hour any additonal time beyond 8 hours?

The utility company had us replace a stop box on our waterline 2 yrs ago.We had it replaced,someone from the water came out and okayed the repairs.But they say I`ve not been billed for water since then although I have been billed for other things like garbage&sewer.So now they say I owe $333 like it was my fault.Is there any thing I can do?

My car was stolen from my home. The police man came took a report, of which I signed, and told me he would contact me. He never contacted me. When I went to get a copy of the report, which I needed in order for the impound to release my car, I was told that the report was never finished by the officer. I have since spoke to the officer and he said he didn't finish the report because he thought I wouldn't have followed through anyway.

This entire situation is murking over with poor behavior. I want to know what I can do. What does a citizen do when they have been wronged by the police?

In preparing an aplication for copyright on my religious teaching books I need clarification of the word ''distribution'' in the instructions. The material was firs used in 1993, and only students workbooks were distributed, given to school students to use and keep. None were sold. No complete teaching booklets and workbooks together were distributed. Are these student's workbooks counted as poublished, or distributed?
