My son attended a wilderness
training camp this
summer (Outward Bound), and had an excellent
experience. He has now written a
book, which he wants to call. One
young mans journey: My Outward Bound experience.
Does he need specific written
permission to use the name of Outward Bound in his book, since that is a registered trademark?
We have formally requested permission from OB, but it has not yet been granted. It hasn't been declined either..

If the book is an expression of your son's experience and does not suggest that it originates with OB and/or that OB endorses the book you're fine, under the First Amendment, to use the name OB in the title. You should also include a disclaimer that the book is not endorsed by OB or written with, or pursuant to, permission granted by OB. If you are able to interest a publisher, they may require other caveats.
